Founded in Hamburg in 1905, Hela develops spice and seasoning solutions for the food industry, butchers and bakers, restaurants and food retail, from its base in Ahrensburg.
Herausforderung
Since 12 August 2026, Hela has had to show that the packaging of its products meets the standards of the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Hela gets much of the information for that from its packaging suppliers.
Hela's Quality Management team has to collect packaging documents from each supplier and check every one before it can be used.
Lösung
Hela's suppliers upload their packaging documents in Simvia, where each document is scanned with AI. The Quality Management team checks the result and accepts a document once it is correct.
Nele Rusche, Quality Management Officer at Hela, is part of that team. "The AI already makes things a lot simpler," says Rusche.
Ergebnis
Simvia now scans Hela's supplier packaging documents with AI.
The manual reading moves to the AI, and the team’s knowledge goes where it matters most: judging the result. That gives Quality Management time back for the work that keeps products safe and suppliers on track.
